Okay, okay, I can see you are thinking "Why would I bother with yet another reporting tool?" - and we hear you, but let me explain what led to the creation of RootDB.
At some point, here at atomicWeb, we needed an affordable self-hosted reporting solution, quickly pluggable to a MySQL database in order to produce interconnected reports, easily integrated into external websites.
Several solutions exist on the market, but some are far too expensive, others far too complete for our needs, not self-hosted, too complicated to set up and maintain… Some offer offer what we need but with an outdated user interface… So the choice became quickly limited.
As we did not find the ideal tool, we simply thought that we could try to offer our own reporting solution, with our vision of reporting.
We have made lots of reporting in the past, so we have a clear expectation of what a reporting tool should provide. You can have a glimpse of what we're planning if you check our Roadmap.
Basically we wanted something which is :
- relatively easy to self-host,
- powerful for the developer,
- but easy for the users who simply need to consult the reports,
- to be able to open multiple reports in the same browser tab,
- to give the choice of the chart library,
- (all of it) with a basic CSV export.
And here we are.
With this first iteration, we are aware that important functionalities are still missing, but you will find almost all the basics to start reporting with RootDB.
We will now devote our efforts to adding the features that we have planned while trying to take into account user feedbacks on priority.
